Founded in 2003 by Roman native Viviana Altieri, Istituto Mondo Italiano is Pittsburgh’s premier cultural hub for all things Italian. Located within the Wilkins School Community Center (WSCC), the institute offers a vibrant, immersive experience—no passport required. From language mastery to hands-on culinary secrets, we invite you to join our community of Italophiles.
Italian Language Programs
Whether you are preparing for a trip to the Amalfi Coast or connecting with your heritage, our interactive classes get you speaking from day one.
Adult Classes: 10-week sessions ranging from Absolute Beginner (101) to Advanced Intermediate (B1/B2).
Children’s Programs: Engaging after-school classes and summer camps where kids learn through play, song, and movement.
Flexible Learning: Most classes are available both in-person at WSCC and online via Zoom.
Culinary Arts & Cooking Classes
Become a "Pasta Pro" in our popular hands-on workshops. Our cooking classes are kept small (maximum 8 participants) to ensure a personalized experience.
Regional Pasta Making: Learn the art of handmade dough and shapes from different Italian regions.
Specialty Workshops: Mozzarella making, Tiramisu intensive, Cannoli workshops, and seasonal Pizzelle classes.
Cooking Club: Join our "Regions of Italy" club for a deeper dive into Italy's diverse culinary landscape.
