Wilkins Wine Classes – Late Spring 2009

The next series of wine classes is listed below, and the cost of each class is indicated below.  Class size is normally limited to ~20, so to ensure a place please send your registration with a check as soon as possible (first checks take precedence), but no later than the Saturday before each class, to Wilkins School Community Center, 7604 Charleston Ave., Pgh, PA 15218-1265.  Please also include a phone number in case we have to delay or cancel a class for weather or other reason.

Italian DOCGs – Tuesday, April 21, 2009

These are Italy ’s controlled and guaranteed appellations, and are intended to be the summit of Italian winemaking. At last count up to 35, this is an interesting collection of wines of all shapes and sizes and colors.  We’ll cover the first five, plus others.  $25

Rhein and other Rieslings – Tuesday April 28, 2009

A string of good vintages doesn’t guarantee good wines but the Rieslings from the Rhein, Mosel and other German rivers have been great, and balance their fruitiness and sweetness with enticing acidity.  Come and try them!  $25

Pinot Noir Styles – California vs Oregon – Tuesday May 5, 2009

Some try for finesse and elegance, like red Burgundies.  Others capitalize on ripeness and produce dark brooding fruity wines, as big as they can.  We’ll taste a bunch to assess our preference. $25

All classes are led by Chris Forbes and begin at 7:00 PM.  For inquiries call Patty at 412-247-6604 or 412-244-8458, or you can email her at pattydoody1@hotmail.com
