Aikido Kokikai (Six Week)

Brush Up Your Bridge

Regent Square residents Kathy Mulligan and Dan McKinley will coordinate this class, which is designed for people who already know the rules but may not have played in a while. We will play duplicate bridge and review the basic rules of bidding, playing, and defending, as well as the properties of the game. Come alone, or bring your bridge-playing friends!

Tango M101 | Sun.
Students connect with and invite their partner to move in expression with tango music. Introduces the tango walk, the embrace, etiquette, ochos, the cross, rock-step turns, and vals. For beginners as well as for those who want to polish their tango foundation. The class is focused on the milonguero style of tango. No partner required. The fee for the entire six week sesssion (no class 10/11) is $60/person. 8 participant minimum.

Students develop their musicality and add the molinete, pivots, and new turns and ochos to their foundation technique. Also introduces milonga. For those with some tango experience, particularly those who have previously taken tango M101. No partner required. Zumba is back with Tara Kennedy. Zumba combines high-energy and motivating music with unique moves and combinations that allows the Zumba participants to dance away their worries.
Zumba is a fusion of Latin and International music. Participants should wear basic sneakers- not running shoes and bring water

Egyptian (Oriental) Style Belly Dance Class

Nawal has been dancing and performing in the Egyptian-style of bellydance for 10 years and has taken classes and workshops with some of the foremost nationally and internationally known dancers and choreographers. This class will include stretching exercises to warm up, basic belly dance drills and clear instruction on the basic movements. Beginning Rug Braiding

Learn to make a 2’ X 3’ rug out of recycled wool clothing. We will cover braiding skills, put diamond or rick-rack patterns in the rug, and learn to “butt” the end row to give a professional finish. Kit ($20) includes starter rolls of wool strips, instruction booklet, lacing needle, 15 yards of lacing cord, hemostat, tapestry needle, clothespin and safety pins. Ming’s Chinese Class: Mandarin 1 (Grades K & up)

Students will be introduced to the Mandarin language and provided a strong foundation for more intensive study in the future. A language teacher with an advanced degree in Asian Literature and Linguistics, Ms. Ming has designed fun courses based on the basics of Chinese pronunciation, writing, and grammar. Students will do “Pinyin” (phonetic writing), rhyme, and sing, as well as learn traditional Chinese crafts. A Chinese snack in each class will expose students to Chinese culture and customs. This cake decorating class is designed to teach the art of cake decorating to “Little Chefs” ages 8-14. Students will make icing flowers and learn to finish with shell borders.
