Aikido Kokikai  (Six Week)

Mon & Wed: 8:15 - 9:30 PM (7 Weeks)

Aikido works with the momentum and reflexes of an attacker as an effective method of self-defense well-suited for people of all ages and sizes. Practice develops your grace, confidence, and stamina; it’s also fun! Wear loose-fitting clothing. The instructor is Barbara Litt.  $40 (1 day/week),

 Brush Up Your Bridge

Mon. 7:00-8:30 PM | $30

Regent Square residents Kathy Mulligan and Dan McKinley will coordinate this class, which is designed for people who already know the rules but may not have played in a while. We will play duplicate bridge and review the basic rules of bidding, playing, and defending, as well as the properties of the game. Come alone, or bring your bridge-playing friends!

 Empower Flow Yoga Has Been Cancelled For This Session!!

Mon. 6:30-7:45 PM | $45 walk in $10.00

Empower Flow Yoga is a vigorous Vinyasa style of yoga, which means “breath-synchronized movement”.  You will move from one pose to another on each breath at a quick pace.  Bring a mat, water, and a yoga block (recommended) to class.  This class is taught by Victoria Clavelli and Heather Workinger of YogaDog Studio and Carnegie Mellon University.

T’ai Chi Ch’uan | Beginners welcome

Classes: Sat. @ 12:00 Noon, Mon. @ 12:15 PM, Thurs. @10:15 AM 

T’ai Chi Ch’uan is an ancient Chinese martial art consisting of a series of soft, fluid movements, designed to promote good health and well being.  Of all forms of exercise medical studies have shown that T’ai Chi is the most effective exercise to improve balance.  Whether you are a senior, a young athlete or a “couch potato”, T’ai Chi can improve your performance, your posture, deepen your breathing, and relax your mind and body.

Beginning Yoga

This classical Hatha Yoga style class develops flexibility and relaxation progressing from pre Yoga poses to basic Yoga poses. Students with no experience and returning students with some experience are appropriate. The instructor is Debbie Buff.

Continuing Yoga

This class is for those who have some experience with the basics and who wish to deepen and expand their understanding of Yoga. We will incorporate greater breath awareness and longer holds of classical Yoga postures.  The instructor is Debbie Buff. Walk-Ins $10

Watercolor |

Tues. 3:00-5:30; 6:00-8:30 PM | $45

Experienced watercolor teacher, Marci Mason, leads this class for all levels of painters who would like to improve their technique. If you don’t have supplies, buy a beginner’s watercolor kit.

Salsa I- Beginner Level

Wed. 6:00-7:00 PM | $48

This introductory class will cover the fundamentals of Salsa dancing including learning to dance in time with salsa rhythm, basic foot work, simple turns and patterns, and proper lead/follow technique. Singles and couples welcome. Contact Connie Durning to register at conniedurning@comcast.net.

Argentine Tango

Tango M101  | Sun. 4:30-6:00PM, begins Sept. 13

Students connect with and invite their partner to move in expression with tango music.  Introduces the tango walk, the embrace, etiquette, ochos, the cross, rock-step turns, and vals. For beginners as well as for those who want to polish their tango foundation. The class is focused on the milonguero style of tango.  No partner required.  The fee for the entire six week sesssion (no class 10/11) is $60/person.  8 participant minimum.

Sunday Practica: Sun. 6:00-7:00 

Tango M103  | Sun. 7:00-8:30PM , begins Sept. 13

Students develop their musicality and add the molinete, pivots, and new turns and ochos to their foundation technique.  Also introduces milonga. For those with some tango experience, particularly those who have previously taken tango M101.  No partner required.  The fee for the entire six week sesssion (no class 10/11) is $60/person.  8 participant minimum. Silver & Fit Systems | Thurs. 10:00-10:30AM

Men and woman age 55 and over can come and maintain a healthy level of fitness and flexibility in this fun class. Class fees may be covered by your insurance; otherwise there is a $2.00 fee per class. For more information call the Mulberry Senior Center at 412 241-7560.

Silver & Fit Powered Zumba | Tuesday 10:00-10:30AM

Zumba - New Day!

Wed. 7-8:00 $32 (1 day a week), Drop-in Session $6.

Zumba is back with Tara Kennedy. Zumba combines high-energy and motivating music with unique moves and combinations that allows the Zumba participants to dance away their worries. 

Zumba is a fusion of Latin and International music. Participants should wear basic sneakers- not running shoes and bring water

and a towel.

Egyptian (Oriental) Style Belly Dance Class

Mon. 7:00-8:15PM | $65 or $45 4-class Card 

Nawal has been dancing and performing in the Egyptian-style of bellydance for 10 years and has taken classes and workshops with some of the foremost nationally and internationally known dancers and choreographers. This class will include stretching exercises to warm up, basic belly dance drills and clear instruction on the basic movements. Beginning Rug Braiding 

Tues. 7-9:00 PM | $45

Learn to make a 2’ X 3’ rug out of recycled wool clothing.  We will cover braiding skills, put diamond or rick-rack patterns in the rug, and learn to “butt” the end row to give a professional finish.  Kit ($20) includes starter rolls of wool strips, instruction booklet, lacing needle, 15 yards of lacing cord, hemostat, tapestry needle, clothespin and safety pins.  Also bring scissors, needle, and thread.  Pre-registration required by Sept 7th. www.ValleyForgeRugBraidingGuild.com

Ming’s Chinese Class: Mandarin 1 (Grades K & up)

Wed.  4:30-5:30 PM (Begins September 30th) | $120.00

Students will be introduced to the Mandarin language and provided a strong foundation for more intensive study in the future. A language teacher with an advanced degree in Asian Literature and Linguistics, Ms. Ming has designed fun courses based on the basics of Chinese pronunciation, writing, and grammar.   Students will do “Pinyin” (phonetic writing), rhyme, and sing, as well as learn traditional Chinese crafts.  A Chinese snack in each class will expose students to Chinese culture and customs.   Piano & Percussion

    Amy Stubbs is offering private instruction for Percussion (all levels) and Piano lessons for ages 5-Adult. Ms. Stubbs is a professional percussionist with degrees from the Manhattan School of music and Carnegie Mellon University. Performance credits include the River City Brass Band, San Francisco Symphony, Syracuse Symphony and more. Formerly faculty of University of California, Davis, Ms. Stubbs has maintained a private teaching practice for over 12 years.

Mini-Classes

Learn to Waltz! In one class! 

Sun. Oct. 4 2-3:00 PM | $10 Wayne Albright has a reputation for waltzing whenever and wherever.  Gaye Fifer teaches pre-school in Charlottesville, VA when she’s not traveling.  Together, they have been waltzing and refining their teaching strategies for over 8 years.  Their teaching focuses on the skills and nuances of aware, timely leading and following.  The style of waltz they teach is contra, or American folk, waltz, rather than Viennese or ballroom. No partner required! Must preregister by Sept 28th.

Soapmaking from Scratch!

Sat. Oct. 3 11-1:30 PM | $20 ($20 Materials Fee)

Experience the pleasure of handmade soaps and preserve and protect your skin. We are so excited to offer this special hands-on soapmaking workshop! Under the careful supervision of soapmaker Cynthia Hill, founder of Third Day Luxury Soaps & Healing Gardens, you will make your own batch of soap. We will be there to simply observe as you design & make you own soap using the cold-press method. We will supply all the raw materials. Students supply: Plastic gloves & goggles and two old bath towels. Must pre-register by Sept 27th.

Cooking with Dave Green: Learn to prepare a Rijsttafel 

Thurs. Oct. 8 7-9:00 PM | $20.00

The Dutch-Indonesian Rijsstafel (rice table) is an elaborate meal consisting of many dishes served in small portions and accompanied by rice. We will learn the history of this festive meal and prepare and share in a smaller- but no less exotic-flavored- version of this feast. Must pre-register by Oct 2nd.

Experimental Printmaking

Experimental Printmaking Class: Create unique artwork by adapting traditional “woodblock” printing techniques. Work with easy to use, everyday materials. No carving, no knives, no art experience needed. Fun for all ages. Pre-register by Sept 16th.

Kids in the Kitchen

Tues. Oct. 13 6:30-7:30 PM | $15.00

This cake decorating class is designed to teach the art of cake decorating to “Little Chefs” ages 8-14.  Students will make icing flowers and learn to finish with shell borders.  All supplies are provided.  Parents are invited to join the class.  Instructor, professional cake decorator, and business owner Theresa Lee is a member of ICES and has taken many classes from Food TV Network Stars. She is happy to share her experiences with you. Must pre-register by Oct 6th.
